Punta Cana and Bahía de las Águilas earn spots in global travel rankings

The Dominican Republic has strengthened its international tourism profile after Punta Cana and Bahía de las Águilas were featured in prestigious global travel rankings, highlighting the country’s appeal as both a world-class beach destination and a haven for nature tourism.

Punta Cana was included by Condé Nast Traveller among the world’s 11 best tropical vacation destinations, recognized for its white-sand beaches, year-round warm climate, vibrant nightlife, water sports, and marine excursions. The destination shares the list with globally renowned tourism hotspots such as the Maldives, the Bahamas, the Philippines, and French Polynesia, reinforcing its position as one of the Caribbean’s leading travel destinations.

Meanwhile, Lonely Planet ranked Bahía de las Águilas among the 25 best beaches in the world for 2026. Located within Jaragua National Park in Pedernales, the beach was praised for its crystal-clear waters, pristine shoreline, and largely untouched natural environment. The publication also highlighted the area’s rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems, which have made it one of the most admired natural attractions in the Caribbean.

The recognition of Bahía de las Águilas comes as Pedernales continues to gain prominence as an emerging tourism destination. Ongoing infrastructure projects and investments aimed at expanding tourism in the province have positioned the region as a key component of the Dominican Republic’s long-term development strategy. International exposure from leading travel publications is expected to further attract visitors and investors to the area.

The simultaneous inclusion of Punta Cana and Bahía de las Águilas in internationally respected rankings underscores the diversity of the Dominican Republic’s tourism offering. By combining established resort destinations with protected natural treasures, the country continues to strengthen its global tourism brand and expand its appeal to travelers seeking a wide range of experiences in the Caribbean.
