Punta Cana MRO Center starts operations with first aircraft from JetBlue

Punta Cana.- The Dominican Republic has taken a major step in expanding its aeronautical capabilities with the arrival of the first aircraft at the new Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Center at Punta Cana International Airport.

A JetBlue Airbus A320, registration N634JB, became the first aircraft to enter the facility, marking the beginning of operations at the aviation complex developed by Grupo Puntacana in partnership with FL Technics, a global aircraft maintenance services provider.

The aircraft’s arrival also marks the center’s first operational contract, reinforcing the relationship between JetBlue and Punta Cana’s airport infrastructure.

The new MRO facility aims to position the Dominican Republic as a regional hub for aircraft maintenance services in the Caribbean and the Americas, allowing airlines to perform specialized work locally instead of sending aircraft to other markets.

Located within the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone, the center spans approximately 115,588 square meters, with 27,000 square meters of construction. Its first phase includes five maintenance positions for narrow-body aircraft, with expansion plans in the future.

The facility will provide services such as scheduled inspections, base maintenance, component repairs, cabin modifications, and other specialized aviation work. Authorities and industry leaders expect the project to generate skilled jobs, promote technical training, and strengthen the country’s aviation and tourism-related economy.
