Raquel Peña launches new Armed Forces complex and water project in La Romana

Vice President Raquel Peña visited La Romana on Thursday to inaugurate a new Armed Forces complex in Bayahibe, reopen the renovated San Martín de Porres Sports and Cultural Club, and launch construction of new drinking water distribution networks, as part of government efforts to strengthen security, improve public services and expand opportunities for local communities.

At the inauguration of the Bayahibe military complex, Peña said the new facility enhances the Armed Forces’ operational capacity to protect the country’s coastline and reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing national security infrastructure. The complex includes surveillance systems, upgraded accommodations, a dry marina, parking facilities and housing for military personnel.

The vice president also delivered the remodeled San Martín de Porres Sports and Cultural Club in the Papagayo sector. The renovated facility, carried out by the General Directorate of Community Development, is expected to benefit about 1,475 children and young people through improved sports, cultural and community programs.

Peña later attended ceremonies marking the 126th anniversary of La Romana municipality, highlighting that the government has completed more than 25 strategic projects across the province, including healthcare, sports and infrastructure initiatives.

The visit concluded with the groundbreaking for a 5.3-kilometer drinking water distribution network that will serve more than 35,000 residents in Romana del Oeste, Caleta and surrounding communities, improving long-awaited access to potable water.
