RD Vial announces feasibility study for Central Cibao Expressway
Santo Domingo.- RD Vial announced that a feasibility study will be conducted for the proposed Central Cibao Expressway, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity among the four provinces of the central Cibao region.
According to RD Vial director Hostos Rizik, the planned roadway would link the San Francisco de Macorís highway with the Duarte Highway near the entrance to the Cibao International Airport. Rizik said a consulting firm has already been authorized to begin preliminary technical studies, highlighting the interest of President Luis Abinader in advancing the initiative.
Business and regional development leaders welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the project’s potential economic impact. Ricardo Fondeur, representing the Association for the Development of Santiago (APEDI), stressed the importance of accelerating the feasibility process, expressing confidence that the studies will support the project’s viability.
Meanwhile, Juan María García stated that improving traffic flow and reducing travel times between Santiago and San Francisco de Macorís would strengthen economic growth in a region that contributes around 20% of the Dominican Republic’s GDP.
