Relatives claim that the young woman who died in Gurabo was the victim of an “act of witchcraft”
A climate of shock, grief, and secrecy has enveloped the community of Calle 7 in Gurabo following the death of Anayery Vargas Polanco, a young woman of just 26 years old. What was initially diagnosed as a death from medical causes has sparked a heated family controversy centered on alleged witchcraft practices.
According to the statements presented, Vargas Polanco was declared dead at the José María Cabral y Báez Hospital due to pneumonia. However, alarm was raised among her relatives when, 12 hours after her death, the young woman’s body supposedly showed no signs of rigor mortis.
Family members maintain the hypothesis that the young woman’s death was linked to a supposed witchcraft ritual motivated by jealousy. They claim to have heard accounts suggesting that her soul was “sold” through sorcery rituals.
“When they grab someone and cast a spell on them, supposedly that’s what I’ve been told, the person appears dead. They look dead, but their soul isn’t dead; they take it to do bad things,” said a relative of the deceased, filled with uncertainty.
The strange case caused tense situations during the funeral rites, to the point of generating incidents in the cemetery where relatives opposed the burial of the body after noticing alleged movements in the young woman’s fingers, forcing the body to be returned to the residence to continue with the wake.
On the other hand, some residents of the area maintained a skeptical stance towards the supernatural version, pointing out that Vargas Polanco was experiencing health problems linked to the frequent consumption of vapes and hookahs, which could have triggered the severe lung condition reported by doctors.
Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incidents that occurred during the funeral, while in the community of Gurabo the debate continues between clinical explanations and popular beliefs.
