Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico’s Aguadilla partner to expand economic and cultural cooperation

Santo Domingo Mayor Carolina Mejía and Aguadilla Mayor Julio Roldán Concepción signed a historic twinning and cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening ties between the Dominican capital and the Puerto Rican municipality.

The agreement, signed at Santo Domingo City Hall, establishes a framework for cooperation in trade, tourism, education, culture, economic development, environmental protection, and municipal governance. It also promotes the exchange of experiences in restoring public spaces and managing parks.

Mejía described the agreement as an honor and said both cities can benefit from sharing their experiences and working together to improve services for their communities.

Roldán Concepción said the initiative grew out of efforts that began in 2021, when both mayors were beginning their respective terms. He welcomed the formalization of the relationship between Santo Domingo and Aguadilla as sister cities.

The agreement seeks to build on the longstanding ties between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico while creating new opportunities for collaboration between their local governments and communities.
