Six price hikes bring gasoline prices to almost RD$400.00 per gallon

2026 began with Premium and Regular gasoline prices of RD$290.10 and RD$272.50, respectively. However, the two most widely used fuels in the country have experienced six price increases in the last three months.

This has led to a cumulative increase in the price of Premium gasoline from March to May of this year of RD$45.00, and in the price of Regular gasoline of RD$35.00, with both fuels aiming to reach RD$400.00 per gallon.

In January and February, gasoline prices remained at the levels they had closed at in 2025, with a Government subsidy of RD$71.9 million, but from March onwards, prices began to rise due to volatility in the price of a barrel of oil on international markets.

The first increase occurred in the second week of the third month of the year, when the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs (MICM) ordered an increase of RD$5.00 for both fuels, and then, in the third week, an increase of RD$10.00, which added up to an increase of RD$15.00 in the same month.

April saw only one increase: RD$9.00 for Premium gasoline and RD$7.00 for Regular, bringing the prices of the two gasolines to RD$314.10 and RD$294.50 each.

By May, amid complaints about the price increases and their impact on other sectors, the Government again ordered further increases, adding, in May alone, an increase of RD$21.00 for Premium gasoline and RD$13.00 for Regular gasoline.

Specifically, in May, Premium gasoline saw increases of RD$9.00, RD$8.00, and RD$4.00.

Regular gasoline rose by RD$7.00, RD$4.00, and RD$2.00 in the same period.

First week of June

Yesterday, the Government froze gasoline prices, keeping Premium at RD$335.10 and Regular at RD$307.50.

Premium and regular diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, and natural gas also remained at last week’s prices.

LPG continues to be sold at RD$137.20 per gallon. However, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs has ordered price reductions for aviation fuel, kerosene, fuel oil, and 1% fuel oil.

Starting today, the price of Aatur will be reduced by RD$5.90 to RD$271.12, while kerosene will decrease by RD$6.40 to RD$308.30.
