Santo Domingo.- Spain was the Dominican Republic’s largest source of foreign direct investment in 2025, contributing US$1.086 billion, or about 21% of total foreign investment received, Spanish Ambassador Lorea Arribalzaga Ceballos said.
The ambassador highlighted the figure during a reception in Santo Domingo marking Spain’s National Day on October 12, describing Spanish investment as a reflection of companies’ confidence in the Dominican economy.
Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez said bilateral trade exceeded US$1.4 billion in 2025, while Industry, Commerce and MSMEs Minister Víctor Bisonó emphasized the importance of maintaining and expanding economic ties between the two countries.
Spanish companies have a presence in key Dominican sectors, including energy, infrastructure and tourism, according to the officials.
The two governments also highlighted development cooperation and ties between their migrant communities, while identifying new areas for collaboration, including potential research involving the Dominican Republic’s rare earth elements.
