Sunny Sunday across much of the country; swimmers warned of dangerous surf
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that this Sunday, a sunny, partly cloudy environment will prevail, with no significant rainfall across most of the national territory, due to a drier air mass.
However, the institution explained that, during the afternoon, some local downpours, isolated thunderstorms, and possible gusts of wind are expected in locations in Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, El Seibo, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, La Vega, Santiago, and San Juan, among other nearby provinces, due to local effects and the influence of a weak trough in the middle levels of the troposphere.
Temperatures and winds
Indomet reports that temperatures will gradually decrease, but the heat index will remain high in the afternoon.
Given these conditions, the agency recommended that the population drink plenty of water, wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm without proper protection, and stay in cool, well-ventilated places.
Dangerous waves
Indomet recommends that operators of fragile, small, and medium-sized vessels on the Atlantic coast navigate with caution near the coast and avoid venturing out to sea because of abnormal wave and wind conditions.
Swimmers should take necessary precautions because of the risk of dangerous rip currents. Meanwhile, the Caribbean coast remains unrestricted for navigation.
