Supérate showcases Dominican poverty reduction efforts at UN sustainable development forum

Speaking at the forum, Jiménez said social protection has become a key tool for helping vulnerable families overcome poverty by connecting them with financial assistance, employment opportunities, and essential services.

She noted that Supérate currently supports 1.4 million households through social subsidies and employment initiatives, while also advancing the country’s national care policy by expanding home care services under President Luis Abinader’s administration.

Jiménez highlighted the country’s declining poverty rate, which fell from 25% in 2020 to 17% in 2025, attributing the progress to coordinated public policies focused on social protection and job creation.

During a panel on energy vulnerability and the just transition, she also outlined the impact of the Bono Gas and Bono Luz programs, which provide energy subsidies to 1.2 million and 620,000 households, respectively.

The forum also included a high-level dialogue with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo, focusing on how social protection policies can help vulnerable populations cope with climate change and global crises.
