Swimming banned at Puerto Plata beaches due to dangerous sea conditions

The Puerto Plata Prevention, Mitigation and Response Committee (CPMR) has placed red flags on beaches along the province’s Atlantic coast due to dangerous sea conditions caused by a swell, including strong waves and rip currents.

The measure took effect Thursday, October 22, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice. Authorities have prohibited swimming, water sports, and fishing in the affected areas.

The restrictions cover beaches in Sabaneta de Yásica, Cabarete, Sosúa, Montellano, San Felipe de Puerto Plata, Maimón, and Luperón, as well as parts of Villa Isabela.

Residents and visitors are urged to stay away from breakwaters, seawalls, rocky areas, and the shoreline and to follow instructions from the Civil Defense, Dominican Republic Navy, and local authorities.
