The Amber Highway will boost convention tourism in the northern region
Senator Daniel Rivera, representing the province of Santiago, stated that the construction of the Amber Highway is one of the most important infrastructure projects for the Cibao North, South, and Northeast region, considering that it will reduce travel time between Santiago and Puerto Plata from an hour and a half to just 30 minutes.
The legislator highlighted that the project, whose investment amounts to RD$28.8 billion, will strengthen tourism, conventions, commerce, health, industry, agriculture, and poultry.
In addition to higher education and mountain tourism, as well as connectivity between both provinces, it also benefits other areas of Greater Cibao, such as La Vega and Espaillat.
Rivera praised the Government’s support for the initiative, evidenced by the visit to Santiago by Vice President Raquel Peña and the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella, and noted that more than 70 organizations support the project’s execution.
He also stated that the new road will help reduce traffic accidents on the Santiago–Puerto Plata corridor, one of the most dangerous in the country, by offering a highway with modern safety standards and will contribute to fuel savings, which will be a relief for drivers.
The Amber Highway will be approximately 32.7 kilometers long, with four traffic lanes, a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour, and two tunnels through the Northern Mountains, designed to protect ecosystems and improve mobility in the region.
