The CAASD asks to rationalize water in the face of drought affects the Dominican Republic

In a communication, the official reiterated that the aqueducts supplying water to Greater Santo Domingo operate well below their usual capacity, as their production to date is between 30 and 35% due to the lack of rain in the river basins.

Suberví said that the lack of rainfall is caused by the El Niño phenomenon, which affects not only the Dominican Republic but also other Caribbean and Latin American countries, such as Puerto Rico, which is also currently experiencing a water crisis for consumption.

He said that since May, there has been a very marked reduction in rainfall, especially in the basins that supply the Haina, Isa Mana, Duey, and Isabela rivers, as well as the Nizao river, which supplies Valdesia.

“In the case of Haina Manoguayabo, it presents a reduction of 68%,” said the director of the CAASD.
