The Ministry of Tourism clarifies that public beaches are freely accessible to all citizens.

Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) reiterated that public beaches in the Dominican Republic are free to access and that no citizen can be prevented from enjoying these spaces because of their status as a Dominican or a visitor.

The clarification comes amid a debate on social media following complaints of restrictions in some beach areas, where users claimed to have been prevented from placing chairs, umbrellas, or other belongings in public access areas.

The institution reiterated that beaches are public property and that free access is guaranteed by Dominican law. However, it clarified that hotels, clubs, or resorts may manage their private facilities, such as swimming pools, furniture, restaurants, and other areas exclusively for their clients, but they cannot appropriate the public beach or impede legal access to it.

MITUR urged both citizens and tour operators to act in accordance with current regulations and promote coexistence in these spaces, reminding them that any irregular situation can be reported to the appropriate authorities.
