Three suspects in custody over attack that killed Julián Oro Duro’s wife

Santo Domingo.- The National Police reported Wednesday that three people are now in custody as part of the investigation into the assault at the home of merengue artist Gilberto Julián Sarante Perdomo, known as Julián Oro Duro, in which his wife, Zeneida Socorro Castillo, was killed and the artist was injured.

The incident occurred in the Brisa Oriental VI sector of Santo Domingo Este during the early hours of Monday, September 21, after the couple was attacked inside their residence. Castillo, 60, died following the assault, while Julián Oro Duro was taken to a medical facility after suffering severe blows.

According to preliminary information from investigators, two individuals entered the residence, although authorities have not yet established all the circumstances surrounding their entry or the full sequence of events. Reports indicate that a 911 call was made at approximately 1:05 a.m., with police and emergency personnel arriving shortly afterward.

One of those identified by authorities is Kevin Daniel Germán Troncoso, alias “Yandel,” who was named by the Police as a suspected participant in the attack. An arrest warrant had been issued for him, and he surrendered at around 3:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Los Mina police station in Santo Domingo Este.

With his surrender, authorities said two additional people are also under investigation and in custody, bringing the total number of detainees in the case to three.

National Police spokesman Colonel Diego Pesqueira said the identities of the other two suspects will not be released at this stage because the investigation remains in its early phase and is being conducted in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the attack, determine the alleged role of each person involved and establish the corresponding legal responsibilities. The Police had previously identified Germán Troncoso as one of the alleged participants and issued an appeal for him to surrender.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the allegations against those in custody have not yet been adjudicated by a court.
