Tourism Ministry advances RD$60 million restoration of Santiago Monument
Santiago.- A commission overseeing the tourism development agreement for Santiago de los Caballeros conducted an inspection of renovation work at the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration, a project led by the Ministry of Tourism with an investment of RD$60 million.
The delegation was received by María Belissa Ramírez de Zaiek and reviewed progress on several restoration efforts, including the installation of smart lighting, a backup power plant, a new storage area, and upgraded air conditioning systems donated by Banco BHD. The project also includes restoration of the monument’s doors, windows, marble finishes, interior columns, and stairways, as well as the construction of new public restrooms.
The museum inside the monument is also being renovated and is expected to be completed before the end of the third quarter of 2026. Officials said the work is being carried out in phases to allow visitors continued access to portions of the site, one of Santiago’s most important historical and tourist landmarks.
