Traffic chaos in Punta Cana: traffic jams surpass those in the capital

Senator Rafael Barón Duluc, representing the province of La Altagracia, stated that traffic in Punta Cana «is worse than in the capital; the traffic jams are kilometers long.»

«Over there in Verón-Punta Cana, where I’ve had my office for over 10 years… we’re thinking about selling and moving because it’s no longer possible to live there. We’re talking about the Downtown area ,» he said.

«I urge the Government to pay attention to this situation. They should fly a drone over the area during rush hour to see what we’re talking about.»

The legislator stated that the average travel time from Punta Cana airport to a hotel used to be 10 minutes, but now it has increased to 40 minutes, and during rush hour or when traffic is complicated, the time spent in traffic can last up to 1 hour.

Furthermore, he said that «the private sector had to build an overpass and it wasn’t just because it was necessary, it was essential because the traffic jams are already in the premium tourist areas, we’re no longer talking about the neighborhoods.»

«The other day some statements by Frank Rainieri went viral and I heard that he was criticized, but I must say that his statements were prudent because he speaks the truth,» he pointed out.

Duluc clarified that the problem is not a provincial issue, but a national one, emphasizing that the area faces serious planning problems.
