The institution reported that the agent was placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, condemned his actions, and assured that Internal Affairs is also investigating the case.
The General Directorate of the National Police reports that the agent involved in the death of a young man during an incident that occurred on Friday afternoon in the La Cañada sector of Guajimía, Herrera, municipality of Santo Domingo Oeste, has already been placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry. This institution assumed the criminal investigation of the case to establish the corresponding responsibilities.
The National Police categorically condemns the officer’s actions, considering them unacceptable and completely contrary to the principles, values, norms, protocols, and the model of action that govern the exercise of police functions.
In that regard, it reiterates that it will not tolerate conduct involving an illegitimate or disproportionate use of force or actions that violate citizens’ fundamental rights.
In parallel with the investigation being carried out by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Central Directorate of Internal Affairs is conducting the corresponding administrative process to determine any disciplinary responsibilities arising from this regrettable incident.
