Transparency International praises Dominican Republic’s anti-corruption efforts

Santo Domingo.- Transparency International President François Valérian praised the Dominican Republic’s efforts to prevent and combat corruption, describing the country as an international example of strengthening transparency and integrity in public administration.

In an interview with local media, Valérian said the Dominican Republic stands out because its government, prosecutors, and judiciary are actively pursuing corruption cases, unlike some countries that have strong legal frameworks but fail to enforce them.

“The Dominican Republic is fighting corruption,” Valérian said, noting that while challenges remain, there is a genuine commitment to investigating and prosecuting high-profile cases.

His remarks come as the Dominican Republic prepares to host the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) from December 1 to 4, 2026. The event is expected to bring together more than 2,000 participants from 140 countries, including government officials, civil society leaders, international organizations, academics, and private-sector representatives to discuss global strategies for promoting transparency and combating corruption.
