Transportation Cabinet announces mobility plan for Central American and Caribbean Games

Santo Domingo.- The Transportation Cabinet unveiled the mobility plan for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, outlining measures to ensure the safe and efficient movement of athletes, officials, volunteers, and the public from July 24 to August 8.

The strategy includes enhanced traffic management, expanded public transportation, continuous mobility monitoring, dedicated logistics for sports delegations, and temporary road infrastructure adjustments.

The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) will oversee the operation through its Traffic Control Center, managing traffic signals and monitoring the city’s busiest corridors. Athlete and delegation transport will receive police escorts from Digesett and use selected tunnels and overpasses to speed up travel.

Digesett will also increase traffic enforcement around the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and other competition venues, with tow trucks deployed to enforce parking restrictions. Passenger pick-up and drop-off will be limited to designated access points.

To facilitate travel during the Games, OPRET announced that the Santo Domingo Metro will be free for accredited athletes, volunteers, and staff, while OMSA will provide free bus service on all routes from July 24 through August 8, along with special routes serving major sports venues.

The plan also includes temporary restrictions on road construction, cargo vehicle operations, and loading activities near competition sites. Authorities said road closures and detours will be announced through official channels and navigation apps, encouraging residents to plan ahead and use public transportation throughout the event.
