Two homicide suspects captured in Haiti and returned to Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Dominican authorities, with support from Haitian officials and INTERPOL, captured two men wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred in Barahona in January 2024. The arrests were carried out in the Haitian community of Anse-à-Pitre following a joint investigation led by the Criminal Investigations Department (DICRIM) of the Southern Regional Police Directorate.

The suspects, identified as Deivi Mora and Marlon Mariano Severino, were being sought under arrest warrant No. 589-01-2024-AJ-01030 for their alleged involvement in the killing of Joel Fernando Cuevas Medina. According to authorities, Cuevas Medina died from gunshot wounds during an incident in the municipality of Villa Central, Barahona province, on January 17, 2024.

After their capture, the two suspects were transferred by air to the Dominican Republic to face judicial proceedings. The National Police said the operation was the result of sustained investigative work and close international cooperation between DICRIM, INTERPOL, and Haitian authorities.

Officials emphasized that the arrests reflect ongoing efforts to combat crime and prevent impunity through cross-border law enforcement collaboration. The detainees, both residents of Barahona, have been placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal process.
