U.S. Deputy Secretary visits AES Dominicana to strengthen energy cooperation
Boca Chica.- AES Dominicana hosted a visit from Christopher Landau, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador Leah Campos and an official delegation, at the AES Andrés energy complex. During the visit, company executives presented the operations of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, the main gateway for U.S. natural gas imports into the Dominican Republic.
The delegation toured the LNG storage and regasification facilities and the power generation plant, which are supplied with natural gas from U.S. export terminals in Louisiana and Texas. AES highlighted that the Dominican Republic imported more than 4 million cubic meters of LNG in 2025, reinforcing its position as Latin America’s largest importer of North American natural gas.
Company officials emphasized the strategic role of AES’s energy infrastructure in strengthening regional energy security, supporting economic growth, and diversifying the energy mix across the Caribbean and Central America. AES also noted that it represents the largest U.S. capital investment in the Dominican Republic, with more than US$2.4 billion invested in energy infrastructure, while continuing to expand natural gas, renewable energy, and storage solutions throughout the region.
