U.S. Embassy hosts Bourbon Diplomacy celebration in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- The United States Embassy in Santo Domingo, together with the United States Department of Agriculture and its Office of Agricultural Affairs, hosted “Bourbon Diplomacy,” an event celebrating the tradition and cultural legacy of American bourbon as part of the Freedom 250 commemoration marking the upcoming 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

The gathering brought together business leaders, representatives from the hotel and retail sectors, Dominican government officials linked to trade and agriculture, members of the diplomatic corps, and figures from the Dominican tobacco industry.

During the event, U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Leah Francis Campos highlighted bourbon as one of the most iconic symbols of American heritage and underscored the strong commercial relationship between the United States and the Dominican Republic, which she said exceeds US$33 billion annually.

The evening also emphasized the connection between American bourbon and premium Dominican cigars, showcasing the craftsmanship and cultural traditions represented by both industries.

The Embassy recognized the support of sponsors Álvarez & Sánchez, United Brands, Beam Suntory, and El Catador, along with the participation of leading Dominican cigar companies including Arturo Fuente, La Aurora, La Galera, La Flor Dominicana, and ProCigar.

Freedom 250 is a U.S. government initiative leading activities commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence throughout 2026, with events designed to reflect on the nation’s history and strengthen ties with international partners, including the Dominican Republic.
