Weather update: Dominican Republic faces heavy rain and thunderstorms

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) said this Tuesday that a trough affecting different levels of the troposphere will continue to bring moderate to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds to several parts of the Dominican Republic.

The National Emergency Operations Center (COE) maintains a yellow alert for 10 areas and a green alert for seven provinces due to the continued influence of the trough and abundant moisture entering the country from the south and southeast.

Cloudy conditions are expected to develop across the country, producing periods of moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts.

During the morning, rainfall is expected in La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Greater Santo Domingo, Pedernales, Puerto Plata and Santiago, among other areas. In the afternoon, heavier showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, La Vega, San Juan and Monte Plata.
