What causes victims to drop domestic violence complaints in the Dominican Republic?
Santo Domingo.- A study by the Judiciary’s Gender Equality Commission found that fear, emotional dependence, family pressure, depression, and the lingering effects of abuse are among the main reasons many women abandon legal proceedings related to gender-based violence in the Dominican Republic. The report analyzed court rulings issued between 2020 and 2024 involving domestic and gender violence, torture or barbaric acts, and cyber violence.
