Zenith: No shade at midday? The phenomenon happening this week in the Dominican Republic

The sun has been positioned «directly over the Dominican Republic»  in the last 24 hours, an astronomical phenomenon known as  the zenith,  or  «moment without shadow,» when the star is at its highest point in the sky,  and certain vertical objects stop casting a shadow.

This was explained by meteorological analyst Jean Suriel, who pointed out that this event occurs due to the apparent transit of the planet from the equator to the northern hemisphere, a result of the tilt of the Earth’s axis. 

Suriel indicated that during these days, it is possible to observe the phenomenon by conducting an experiment with vertical objects such as bottles, jars, or boxes, which can momentarily cast no shadow. I have clarified that this effect does not apply to people in the same way.

The expert also shared the estimated time when the zenith will occur in different locations across the country this week.
