CIAA releases preliminary report on deadly Gulfstream crash in La Romana

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s Aviation Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA) has released its preliminary report on the June 7 crash of a Gulfstream G200 at La Romana International Airport, confirming that the crew declared an emergency after reporting the loss of the aircraft’s right engine shortly after takeoff.

The jet, operated by Aibonito Aviation LLC, was en route to Austin, Texas, with two crew members on board. After aborting an initial landing attempt, the pilots reported difficulty controlling the aircraft and requested an emergency landing on runway 29. The plane veered off the runway, traveled about 700 meters across grass, suffered a landing gear collapse, and caught fire after impact, destroying the aircraft. Both crew members died.

The CIAA said the investigation remains ongoing and has not determined the cause of the accident. Investigators are examining the reported engine failure, the reasons for the aborted landing, the aircraft’s performance, maintenance records, weather conditions, and data from the recovered cockpit voice and flight data recorders. The commission emphasized that the preliminary report does not assign responsibility or establish the cause of the crash.
