Dominican Special Forces honored after historic Fuerza Comando Paraguay victory

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Defense (MIDE) honored the Dominican Republic’s Special Forces team after it won first place at the Fuerza Comando Paraguay 2026 international competition, marking the country’s first victory in the event.

Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre led the ceremony, which included a special raising of the national flag in recognition of the soldiers’ achievement.

The team members received the MIDE Medal of Merit, as well as decorations from the Order of Military Merit, Order of Naval Merit and Order of Air Merit, according to their respective branches.

Fernández Onofre conveyed President Luis Abinader’s congratulations and announced that the champions will soon be received at the National Palace.

The minister said the victory reflects the progress of the Dominican Armed Forces in training, professionalization, modernization and operational capabilities, while recognizing the sacrifices of the soldiers and the support of their families, instructors and commanders.

He urged the team to maintain its commitment to excellence and serve as an example to future generations of soldiers.

MIDE described the achievement as a milestone in Dominican military history that strengthens the international reputation of the Armed Forces and demonstrates the ability of Dominican Special Forces to compete at the highest level.
