Leonel criticizes Abinader’s handling of Masacre River issue

Santo Domingo.- Former President of the Republic and presidential candidate of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, Leonel Fernández, has voiced concerns regarding the construction of an irrigation canal on the Dajabón River, known as Masacre, by Haitians, asserting that it constitutes a violation of Dominican sovereignty as outlined in the Constitution and the 1929 treaty signed between the two countries.

Addressing the issue, current President and candidate for re-election, Luis Abinader, took to Twitter to handle the dispute. Fernández criticized Abinader’s approach, stating that instead of utilizing available diplomatic measures, the president opted for demonstrations of force, which ultimately harmed national producers and merchants.

Fernández further alleged that Abinader’s actions reflect those of a candidate seeking re-election rather than a statesman, resulting in significant damage to the patriotic sentiment of the Dominican Republic.

Haiti recently completed the connection of the canal designed to divert water from the Massacre River in the city of Juana Méndez. Within less than 24 hours, this led to a significant reduction in the river’s flow.

This is the same president who build a 50 million dollar university in Haiti with taxpayer money. On top of that was the same president who was almost going to get lynched by the Haitians when he went to Haiti.

Politics! Lionel is off-base, he should know better. He says Abinader should use diplomatic measures. However, how can one use diplomatic measures with mafias that manipulate and control the border activities. Mafias that are looking for payoffs to expand or decrease their activities such as illegal water diversion. If Haiti had a working and strong government diplomatic measures could work. Under the present chaotic Haitian environment diplomatic measures have no clout. What does Lionel suggest to fix the matter? Don’t think he has one.

Listen in Haiti nothing has worked in the past, this Country has gotten so much money from charities, Foundtions and other groups, and have been done with it, where it is?. In whose pockets is this money now. In 2010 after the earthquakes, Haiti received billions of dollars the world knows that the publicity was big because of Actors and Musicians, big big donations, and the Clinton foundation what did the goverment do with that money, who has it? who took it?

Come on, we all know what’s going on, and some people suggest that the DR who never contributed to Haiti destruction should be the one to take care of this mess???

Hatiens, should REPENT and ACCEPT JESUS as their SAVIOR; BELIEVE IN JESUS, PRAY to GOD. AMEN.

Haiti has the right to construct a canal just like the DR hast the right to construct its own canal, (11) and some guy is complaining about one canal being built by Haitians. OH! I understand if they can grow their own crops they won’t depend on the DR to buy food from them. all Haitians should revolt not working in the agriculture sector and construction sector as well, le the Dominicans to the construction works. isn’t that trabajo duro? And correct the fake news about water has been diverted .The river belongs to God not to one country in particular. One people like it or not , Dominicans are brothers with the Haitians and for your info 80% of Dominicans are Haitian descent. The division game is well played, wake up Dominicans

This is the nonsense that Haitians feed their people by saying that dominicans come from Haitians. If That’s the case we would have the same culture and we would look alike. The people of the Eastern land were there before the French brought you ancestors to Hispaniola. Read a book.

Dominican Republic has numerous canals on THEIR side of the island, NONE of those canals were built on the border with Haiti because that would be a direct violation of the binational treaty (which Haitians are currently committing). Get your facts straight!!

Leonel Fernandez allied himself with the PTD, a communist party. That believes there shouldn’t be a border, wants forced labor camps for nacional and foreign intellectuals and business people. That party became Fuerza del Pueblo, Leonel Fernandez’s party.

Leonel Fernandez has always been weak on crime and Danilo Medina stopped deporting Haitians for years. Anything coming from Leonel Fernandez and Danilo Medina regarding nacional security shouldn’t be taken seriously since they obviously don’t believe in it.
