Medina breaks ground for Majestic Mirage US$125M resort

Punta Cana, DominicanRepublic.- President Danilo Medina on Friday headed groundbreaking for constructionin Uvero Alto (east) of the Majestic Mirage Hotel, a five star resort to bebuilt at a cost of US$125 million.

Tourism minister FranciscoJavier Garcia said the project, which in his view confirms that Dominicantourism is undergoing its best era, thanks to Medina´s efforts.

He stressed that asthe result of such investments, tourism grew in 20% September and it headedtoward the same figure in October.

The official said Medinainstructed him not to stop any investment that comes to the country, whichcaused a "rain of investment."

For Batle Group CEO SantiagoBatle, the complex will be a benchmark, adding that the hotel to be built onaround 85,000 square meters will open late 2016, with 516 rooms (405 suites and112 junior suites).
