State-owned Electric Utility to install solar panels on govt. buildings

Santo Domingo.– State-owned Electric Utility (CDEEE) announced Monday that a program of solar energy will be implemented in all public buildings in the country, aimed at reducing the governmet’s annual electricity bill by at least US$50 million.

According to El Nuevo Diario, the program also seeks to reduce the dependence on fossil generation and help mitigate the negative effects fuel production has on the environment.

The program designed by the CDEEE involves the installation of photovoltaic solar panels for electricity production for self-sufficiency of public entities. The project will meet all or part of the electricity demand of schools, hospitals, government offices and other institutions.
