Environment announces total ban on conch

Santo Domingo.- The Environment and Natural Resources Ministry on Wed. announced that the seasonal ban on the capture, sale, storage and consumption of conch (lambí) for this year, is in effect from July 1 to October 31.

It said the fishing of conch (Strombus gigas / Lobatus gigas) in that period nationwide responds to Law 307-04, the Dominican Fisheries and Aquaculture Council (Codopesca) said in a statement.

“The ban includes the capture of the individuals of Iambí at any stage of their life cycle and snails of the varieties fotuto (Charonia variegata), mule leg (Cassis tuberosa), burgao (Cittarium pica) and burgao santa maría (Astraea coelata).”
