Disciplinary hearing threatens biggest opposition party

Santo Domingo.- National Police agents erected crowd control barricades in front of opposition PRD party headquarters Sunday night, to bolster security prior to a disciplinary hearing against former president Hipolito Mejia and several senior leaders close to him.

Traffic will be partially detoured on Churchill Avenue near Sarasota, according to reports, with just one lane for vehicles headed south to the Centro de los Heroes (La Feria).

PRD general secretary Orlando Jorge and organization secretary Geanilda Vasquez confirmed their attendance to the hearing against them, while lawyers will represent Mejia and acting party president Andres Bautista.
