Dominican Republic leader a shoo-in on reelection bid: Poll

Santo Domingo.- The latest survey by pollster Penn, Schoen & Berland found that 76% of voters think that President Danilo Medina could be re-elected in the next election, 23% disagree and 1% don’t know or didn’t respond.

Published by SIN network, the survey found that three out of four voters and nine out of ten among ruling PLD party supporters say the President can again launch a bid for the presidency in 2016, despite the constitutional ban.

Meanwhile, three out of four voters support Medina in a potential Constitutional amendment to seek the PLD candidacy in 2016.

If Medina opts to run again, he would win with 68% of the votes. Seven out of 10 people say they would vote for him in 2016, and would win in the first round.

The nationwide survey interviewed 1,049 registered voters from March 4 to 8, and focused only on those who frequently participate in elections. It’s margin of error is +/- 3.02.
