Crimes targeting Dominican journalists worry the Press Association: EFE
Miami.- The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) on Thursday stated concern for the climate of insecurity in the exercise of Dominican Republic’s media and called on the authorities to investigate the murder two months ago of journalist Blas Olivo, EFE reports
"There’s concern about the climate of insecurity in which several Dominican journalists have been involved ", IAPA president Gustavo Mohme said in a statement.
He said while authorities attribute the murder to common crime, the media warn that it could be a direct attack on the work of journalists.
In a more recent case the residence of Color Vision commentator Marino Zapete was burglarized June 27 and while the police investigated as an ordinary larceny, the media notes that the robbers only took the journalist’s laptop ad a few pieces of jewelry.
Yet another confusing incident occurred June 28 when unidentified people fired at the vehicle of Channel 16 reporter and producer Celina Suriel, who though unharmed, showed bullet holes which impacted close to her body.
