US Ambassador clarifies that visas will not be cancelled

Santo Domingo.- US Ambassador James W. Brewster said that despite thecriticism he has received from various sectors for some of hisactivities in the Dominican Republic, he has not "wavered" in promoting thecollaboration of his government with the country.

"We at no time have felt that thesupport of our administration has wavered. In that sense we areimplementing the mandates of our government," Brewster pointed out.

"I understand that not everyonewill always agree with the actions that we undertake in cooperationwith the Dominican Republic, or how we handle these relations,"the official said Friday after signing an agreement between the National Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for the creation os the Unity Against Transnational Organized Crime.

The ambassador clarified that he would not cancel the visa of those who showdisagreement with his approach to the defense of LGBT rights in the country.
