EU to contribute US$7.9 million to immigration issue between DR and Haiti

Santo Domingo.- Francisco Acosta, the president of the European Union’s Working Party on Latin America and the Caribbean (COLAC), announced Friday the investment of 7 million euros (7.9 million dollars) in a project aimed at solving the immigration issue between the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

According to Acosta, who is in the country in a field visit since Wednesday, the project has binational character and is based on five lines of action; approval is imminent, before 15 June, he pointed out.

The "rapid action funds" will be channeled through various UN agencies to develop three of the points involving the Haitian government, mainly to help in the process of providing identification cards to its citizens.
