Deputies laud hero who fought to topple Trujillo’s tyranny

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies on Thursday recognizedthe national hero Mayobanex Vargas for being part in the June 14, 1959, invasionwhich sought to topple Rafael Trujillo’s tyranny, and his lifelong in strugglefor freedom and democracy.

Monseñor Noel province deputy José Antonio Fabian sponsoredthe legislative distinction via a resolution, which notes Vargas’ of honesty,courage, and solidarity that make him an emblematic Dominican.

The lawmakers lauded Vargas’ frontline participation in theheroic expedition of Constanza, Maimon and Estero Hondo.

Vargas, 77, is one of only two survivors of the expedition,together with Cuban-Dominican commander Delio Gomez Ochoa, who was also presentin the ceremony.
