Troops halt more than 150 undocumented Haitians in two weeks

Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- Dominican Army troops arrested84 undocumented Haitians who tried to cross the border to enter the country illegally,the second detention in as many weeks.

The foreigners carried bundles containing clothes, waterand food when they were stopped in the checkpoints at Sanita, Copey, Matanza,Santa Maria and Cañongo.

When questioned by military authorities, the Haitians said theywere traveling to Santiago, Puerto Plata and Mao among other north regioncities.

All the foreigners were sent to Dajabon’s 10thInfantry Battalion headquarters, from where they were handed over to immigrationagents for repatriation.

The Army last week reported the arrest of more than 70undocumented Haitians trying to cross the same border area, where additional troopshave been deployed
