Investigation launched into fatal fire at La Vía Hotel in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- This Monday, the National Police announced that their explosive investigation technicians, in collaboration with the Santo Domingo Fire Department, have taken charge of investigating the causes behind a fire at the La Vía Hotel, situated on Las Américas Avenue in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este. The fire tragically claimed the lives of four individuals, while a minor sustained injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Miguel Peguero Santana (34 years old), Tirson Alberto Martínez (67), Sara Cristina Montero Ogando (37), and Bianna Altagracia Romero (46). The age of the injured minor has not been specified, but they are currently receiving medical attention at a health center in the capital.

According to initial reports, the National Emergency and Security Assistance System 9-1-1 received an alert call around 5:35 in the morning reporting a fire originating in one of the rooms on the first floor of the hotel.

Further investigation revealed that three of the victims were discovered in rooms 72, 73, and 74 on the second floor, while the body of the fourth victim was found in an adjacent area.

Roberto Santos Méndez, the mayor of the National Firefighters Union of Santo Domingo Este, visited the scene of the incident. Alongside DICRIM personnel, he is conducting a thorough examination of the site. More details will be provided once the investigation process is concluded.
