Abinader announces RD$1,100 million mill construction project
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic initiated construction on the new mill of the Cooperative of Multiple Services of Flour Processors (Cooproharina) with the first symbolic shovel blow. The mill will be located in the Santo Domingo Oeste Industrial Park and requires an investment of RD$1.1 billion. According to statements, the project aims to increase flour production capacity from 180 metric tons per day to 480 metric tons per day, representing a 267% increase. The new equipment is expected to be operational within 18 to 24 months.
During the XXXV Ordinary General Assembly of Cooproharina and the 30th anniversary celebration of the Union of Medium and Small Flour Industrialists (UMPIH), President Abinader expressed support for initiatives aimed at boosting flour production and reducing gas consumption through oven upgrades, describing them as sensible and feasible.
Emphasizing the importance of the MSME sector in the Dominican economy, President Abinader assured continued government support for MSMEs, stating, “It is essential for the Government, in all its strategies, economic and public policies alike, to support MSMEs to strengthen their growth and move towards formality.”
Key figures present at the event included Minister of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, Juan Mustafat, General Manager of the Development and Export Bank (Bandex), Issachar Burgos, President of Umpih’s Board of Directors, and Víctor Castro, Director of the National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie).
