Abinader approves Christmas parties in public institutions restrictions on excess
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has confirmed that public institutions can hold Christmas celebrations this December, though with a focus on moderation and avoiding past excesses. Since 2020, the government has prohibited lavish gifts among officials and excessive spending on public festivities.
Abinader also announced an increase in popular festivals this December, emphasizing that “there will be a celebration for the Dominican people.” These events will be organized by the Dominican Municipal League (LMD) and the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (FEDOMU).
Initially, the government’s measures had raised concerns within the music industry, especially among merengue, bachata, and salsa musicians, who feared financial impacts from canceled events. However, the continuation of festivities helps address these concerns.
