Senate approves new Organic Law for Superior Electoral Tribunal

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Senate approved the new Organic Law of the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) in its second reading, authored by Senators Félix Bautista (San Juan) and Pedro Catrain (Samaná). This law repeals the previous Law No. 29-11 and grants the TSE expanded authority to address electoral disputes within professional associations.

The law, developed after extensive deliberation in the Senate’s permanent justice committee with input from TSE judges, defines the Court’s purpose and establishes guiding principles such as efficiency, transparency, procedural economy, and effective judicial protection. It also outlines the qualifications required for TSE judges and ensures their salaries align with those of Constitutional Court judges.

Senator Félix Bautista highlighted that the new law provides clear regulations on the Tribunal’s powers and competencies, allowing it to resolve disputes previously outside its jurisdiction. This update marks a significant advancement in strengthening the TSE’s role within the Dominican Republic’s electoral framework.
