President Abinader establishes Hoyo del Pino National Park to protect ecosystem
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has signed Decree 675-24, creating the Hoyo del Pino National Park under Category II of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Spanning approximately 95.74 km² across Monseñor Nouel and La Vega provinces, the park aims to safeguard vital ecosystems, preserve water sources for a significant portion of the Dominican population, and protect the area’s rich biodiversity and landscapes.
The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources is tasked with managing and administering the park, including acquiring private lands as needed through state-approved purchases or exchanges. The decree also mandates the development of a comprehensive management plan with input from local communities and stakeholders to ensure sustainable conservation practices.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to environmental protection and water resource sustainability, reinforcing the country’s ecological resilience and supporting surrounding communities.
