Central Romana completes challenging 2023-2024 harvest

La Romana.- The Central Romana Corporation, Ltd. announced that its sugar mill completed the 2023-2024 harvest, milling 2.765 million short tons of cane and producing approximately 287,565 short tons of sugar. This output surpasses last year’s production by nearly 22,000 tons but falls short of projections due to intense rains early in the second quarter.

Despite these setbacks, the mill produced over 156,000 short tons of refined sugar and about 19 million gallons of molasses, ensuring a steady supply for the local market. “We faced significant challenges this harvest, primarily due to the low sugarcane yield from excessive rainfall in the eastern region and much of the national territory,” Central Romana stated.

The company also made strides in mechanizing the sugarcane cutting process, achieving 55% mechanization with modern harvesters and loaders, according to a company statement.
