Aerodom deal funds new roadworks to ease traffic in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government is financing major road infrastructure projects in Greater Santo Domingo with the US$775 million advance from the renegotiation of its contract with Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom). The new agreement, which extends until 2060, is expected to generate between US$1.9 and US$2.1 billion in revenues for the State, according to President Luis Abinader.

Among the key projects is the long-awaited solution to the Isabel Aguiar–Prolongación 27 de Febrero junction (Pintura), which includes an overpass and a north-south tunnel along Luperón Avenue, with an estimated cost of US$148 million and an expected completion in October 2025. Work is also underway on a traffic solution for República de Colombia Avenue, improving flow between the 27 de Febrero Extension and Los Próceres.

Additionally, US$350 million is being invested in the paving of streets in La Caleta, Boca Chica, and areas near the airport, with improvements extending across Santo Domingo Este and Boca Chica municipalities. These initiatives aim to significantly ease traffic congestion and enhance mobility in the capital region.
