Christmas has boosted Puerto Plata’s economy
Puerto Plata – This destination’s business and commercial movement on the North Atlantic coast shows excellent dynamism in the last weeks of December. The historic center’s main avenues and important streets are crowded with customers looking to buy sweets, gifts, and ingredients for the traditional Christmas dinner.
Others, on the other hand, especially foreign visitors who are staying in the hotels of the enclaves Playa Dorada, Marapicá, Costámbar, Cofresí, and the district of Maimón, take advantage of the day and night to go to shops and bars. They also see the decorations that adorn the Plaza Independencia, including a gigantic Christmas tree that the city council places every year.
Several merchants who manage businesses in this city’s commercial area but who asked for their names to be withheld so as not to have problems with the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII)` assured that “we have done well because our Christmas products have had a great purchase demand by customers who visit us.”
HOTELS
The Bride of the Atlantic hotel sector has not been left behind, as occupancy so far this month is 100%. The demand for vacationers’ rooms for this time of year has broken all parameters compared to others, said spokesmen for the Playa Dorada and Sosúa-Cabarete Hotel Associations.
