Dominican Republic extends use of expired Venezuelan passports until 2026

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government has officially extended the validity of expired or soon-to-expire Venezuelan passports for immigration processes within the country. The extension comes through an addendum to Resolution No. MIREX/DGM-001-2021, jointly enacted by the Ministry of the Interior and Police, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX).

This measure, which addresses the challenges faced by Venezuelan migrants due to the closure of their consulate in the Dominican Republic, will remain in effect until November 15, 2026. It grants Venezuelan nationals the ability to complete immigration procedures such as renewing their Non-Resident Permits (PNV), even with expired passports, as long as the documents meet required technical and legal standards.

Additionally, the resolution permits Venezuelan citizens to exit and re-enter the country for the purpose of passport renewal—an important provision given the lack of consular services available locally.
