Central Romana concludes 2024–2025 harvest with historic employee bonus

La Romana.- Central Romana Corporation concluded its 2024–2025 sugar harvest with a total output of 306,904 short tons of sugar and announced a historic employee bonus of RD$1.07 billion, the largest in its history. The bonus, granted under its agreement with the United Workers Union, includes RD$482 million specifically allocated to agricultural workers involved in sugarcane planting and harvesting.

Throughout the season, the mill processed over 3.2 million short tons of sugarcane and produced more than 180,000 tons of refined sugar—marking a 14% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, molasses production reached 21.54 million gallons, up nearly 3 million gallons from the last season.

Central Romana credited its workforce for these achievements, noting that their dedication helped overcome significant challenges, including waterlogged fields and labor shortages. To offset these issues, the company increased its reliance on machinery by 60%.

This good result could be from the embargo by the US for alleged forced labor was lifted against Central Romana. Now, more sales are being made, more revenue available to share with workers.
