Abinader receives National Strategy to boost Dominican Republic’s semiconductor industry
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader received the National Strategy for the Promotion of the Semiconductor Industry (ENFIS), aimed at positioning the Dominican Republic as a leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The announcement took place during “National Free Trade Zone Day,” where it was reported that free trade zones attracted US$417.4 million in foreign direct investment in 2024, a 21% increase from the previous year.
Officials highlighted the sector’s diversification beyond textiles, now producing items such as electric catamarans and electronic security devices. Free trade zones account for 3.1% of GDP, generate over 198,000 direct jobs, and indirectly support nearly 460,000 jobs nationwide.
During the event, international executives shared their positive experiences investing in the country, reinforcing its position as a safe and competitive hub for global business.
